Steel beams & joists

Beams and joists are important elements in your structural design of your house. The main framework is usually built using steel beams to reduce the span of you floor joists or to create support where needed. Metal box frames help to achieve lateral support of your house as well. Joists are used mainly for the construction of floors, partitions, roofs, structures, etc.

Steel beams or joists are designed for strength and load bearing and are the most important elements to ensure the structure of your home. To ensure the integrity of your property, it’s critical that a qualified team installs these important elements. We take great care in fitting these elements precisely and perfectly to provide strength and support to the structural design of your home.

Our structural engineers will need to calculate the loading and the necessary dimensions to supply you with the correct calculations and provide you with a structural design to suit your needs.

Insulation

As well as improving the general comfort in your home, the benefit of having a properly insulated property is large savings in energy costs. Of course, today everyone is also concerned about their impact on the environment and an energy efficient home will reduce your carbon footprint.

Heat is lost in your home through three main ways: radiation, conduction and convection. Insulation materials are designed to limit the transfer of heat between two items/areas that are not the same temperature.

While installing the insulation materials in your home, it’s important to understand how these three processes impact upon temperature loss in order for the insulation to work effectively. We specialise in A0 and higher-rated homes so we have in-depth knowledge regarding the correct ways to insulate as well as the correct building methods and materials to use in order to get these ratings.

It’s always more cost-effective to add insulation during construction than to retrofit it after the house is finished. To optimise energy efficiency in your home, we use a whole-house approach and carefully consider the following values:

  • U-value — the rate at which heat passes through a fabric. The lower the U-value of a wall, for example, the less heat will escape through it.
  • R-value — the thermal resistance of a material. This is related to the thickness of the material.  The higher the R-value of a wall, the better insulated it is.
  • K-value — the thermal conductivity of the material. Irrespective of thickness, this value allows different materials to be compared.

We have wide experience in insulating floor voids such as suspended timber flooring, including retrofitting heritage properties. For optimum results, we ensure that the correct insulation materials are used to deliver high levels of thermal performance.

Recent technological advances have seen significant improvements in the quality of insulation materials available on the market (Cellecta, Earthwool, and Rockwool). Through our close contacts with our list of suppliers, we have access to the latest materials that control temperature loss through a combination of airtightness and moisture control, while still allowing a degree of breathability. We can supply these cutting-edge products at a competitive price.

Flooring & screeding

In order to save on their heating bills, many of our clients choose to replace their suspended timber floors with insulated concrete. Traditional timber floors are suspended over a ventilated void, which is the fastest escape route for the heat in your home. These floors can also be a haven for rats, insects and other vermin which enter your home through the vent bricks or create nests under the floorboards. Insulated concrete floors are more durable in nature and enable a variety of hardwearing and easy to clean finishes such as tiles.

This is not a small undertaking, but there are many benefits to insulated concrete flooring. These include a stronger, more stable base and a quieter floor that doesn’t creak when you walk. A concrete floor also provides a strong enough base to build brick walls on top of – you can’t build brick walls on timber flooring. This means that you can achieve a higher energy rating for your home, which provides far better insulation and large energy savings.

We have significant experience replacing suspended timber floors with insulated concrete. Before laying a concrete slab, we consider the floor structure of your property – which needs to meet several criteria – and a number of other factors, including thermal insulation and damp proofing. (Damp Proof Course (DPC) connecting with Damp Proof Membrane (DPM)).

Gas, water, electricity, sewage and other pipes that pass through the original void need to be carefully checked and insulated or replaced if defective before they can be buried in the screed. If your existing screed is uneven, we can use self-levelling compounds to give the perfect balance to your new floors. Our team has all the necessary skills to ensure your services are all in top working order and we can install any kind of flooring to meet – and exceed – your expectations.

Roofing

A roof not only has to provide shelter and waterproofing over your home, it also needs to insulate against the heat and cold; buffer against the wind and rain; and be strong enough to support snow in cold climates and people for maintenance purposes.

Our team has experience in providing new pitched and flat roofs, chimney and leadwork repairs, uPVC guttering and downpipes, general roof cleaning, repairs and painting. We provide new roofing in all forms from tile and slate to more modern materials such as GRP fibreglass and EPDM rubber. Whichever roof you choose, you’ll get the same expert care and attention from our experienced team.

If your roofing is old, it can let in rainwater, causing damp and condensation in your loft or ceiling. If your joists start to rot, major roof repairs may need to be carried out which can be very expensive and a big hassle to fix. It’s important to choose the right team to ensure that your repairs are watertight and able to withstand all sorts of adverse weather conditions, otherwise even small leaks can cause extensive damages to your property.

Our team will do a full investigation to see where the leak is coming from, what timberwork needs to be replaced and what can be saved, and ensure that the existing structure is sturdy enough before we start any repairs. We’ll do this for you as quickly and cost effectively as possible – and with minimal disruption to your busy life.

Ceilings

We have years of experience installing suspended and soundproof ceilings for our clients.

The main benefit of a suspended ceiling is to offer a smooth, clean finish to a room. They also provide an insulating effect, which helps to increase your energy efficiency and lower your bills. We can design and build any suspended ceiling of your choice.

Plumbing

From tracing leaks to fitting entire new bathroom suites, our team of qualified plumbers can meet all your plumbing requirements.

Our first priority is to ensure that your heating and hot water has good pressure and flow. We use high-quality welded copper pipework and low-maintenance, quality boilers such as Vaillant to ensure that our plumbing installations are long-lasting and durable. When we complete the job, we'll give you all the necessary certifications such as Gas Safe certificates for the work that we've done.

All our plumbers are Gas Safe certified.

Electrics

Our team of expert electricians are equally comfortable working with single-phase and three-phase power supplies. In most cases, businesses and industrial premises receive three-phase supply to manage heavier loads, while residential properties are fitted with single-phase which is sufficient to power household items.

We can carry out all forms of electric installations from new wiring to changing fuse boxes and light fittings.

All our electricians have the necessary NICEC certifications.

Rendering & plastering

Whether we are rendering or plastering, we’ll always work with the best possible product to improve the aesthetics and extend the lifespan of your wall.

Rendering refers to the coating of exterior walls while plastering refers to coating the interior walls, however both are made from similar building materials: cement, sand, water and lime.

In some instances – if we remove a chimney, for example – it may be necessary to reinforce your wall’s coating with metal mesh or similar. Once we plaster or render over this reinforcement, it will prevent your wall from cracking or crumbling.

We also have experience pebble dashing, which is a process of throwing pebbles into the render to create an aesthetically pleasing textured effect on exterior walls. Using this weatherproof coating can extend the life of your walls and cut the cost of repainting.

Plaster boarding

Plasterboard is widely used in the UK because it’s cheaper and quicker to install and because of the wide occurrence of timber flooring. Our team has extensive experience creating strong wooden or lightweight metal partitions and installing plasterboard in various ways to a very high standard.

Carpentry

First-fix carpentry is the first of two phases when a constructing a building. It involves all of the structural work starting from the foundations and frame of the building up to the point of plastering and decorating. Second fix carpentry refers to finishing work, which is usually done after the plastering.

Our first and second fix carpentry goes hand-in-hand. Whether we are constructing your roof, floors, partitions, door frames, doors, or skirting architraves, we take great care to fit these items perfectly. We aim for the best possible finish when all these items get a touch of paint.

Decorating

We pride ourselves on our attention to detail and our decorating team can add all the finishing touches to your internal and external decorative works.

When it comes to internal painting and wall papering, we produce everything to a flawlessly high standard, down to the last brush stroke.

External decorating can be more time consuming and expensive as it may involve erecting scaffolding. Before doing any decorative works, we take great care of your elevation. Where necessary, this includes removing all loose stonework, repairing all damages such as cracks, and protecting your existing trees, plants and grass. Once this is all taken care of, then we’ll begin decorating using the best weatherproof materials or professional paint available.

We also have great ideas and experience adding character and unique touches to your builder grade home. Just ask us for ideas!

Kitchens & bathrooms

Your kitchen is the heart of your home and the one area where design and practicality need to meet in equal measures. We have accounts with leading suppliers of top-quality UK- and German-manufactured kitchens.

When we fit your kitchen, we ensure that the preparation process is done in perfect detail. Firstly, we measure all power points as well as gas and plumbing supplies to the exact spot before we start fitting your units. This is the most important stage of your kitchen renovation, so we take extra care to fit your units precisely to provide a durable base for your kitchen.

Because of the number of details and different water contacts, bathrooms are the most difficult to fit. To start, we carefully prepare the entire room without using plasterboard on the walls (this is used only on the ceiling). Instead, we use plywood on partitions or render on brick walls (we won't use bonding or lightweight plasters).

After we prepare the walls, we highly recommend our customers to cover the plywood with cement board, such as Marmox Insulation Boards. There are two reasons for using this before you tile. Firstly, mould can’t grow on the insulation board under the tiles. Secondly, and most importantly, when you shower or bath, the steam from the hot water causes a little condensation behind the tiles. Cement board is waterproof and can’t rot or be damaged by this natural process like plasterboard or plywood. The end result is that you get a much longer guarantee for your bathroom without any mould, water damage, or discolouring.

Patios & driveways

If you’re looking to enhance your property with a patio, upgrade your driveway or improve your garden with hard landscaping, we can help you bring your ideas to fruition.

Our team has the necessary experience to lay both driveways and patios using different methods and materials, depending on your requirements. We can also run electric cables for your patio or garden lights to highlight your garden, giving your property a great effect at night time.

Building a patio or decorating wall around the patio is a great way to add value to your property and can bring about a number of benefits. It can improve your home’s aesthetics and give you and the family a wonderful outdoor space to enjoy BBQs and alfresco dining in the summer.

Garden sheds

Over the years, our clients have all faced the same problem: buying a “relatively” cheap readymade garden shed which has started rotting a few years later. Not only do your stored items run the risk of water damage, but it’s a headache to remove and replace the shed.

Our team has experience building custom-made sheds that can fit your space and meet your specific requirements. We use water and weatherproof materials such as GRP or resin to build hardwearing, long-lasting sheds. The walls are much thicker and sturdier, making them more weather resistant, while the GRP or fibreglass roofs will last much longer then the cheaper options.
